BIWIC 2010 - Venue

The BIWIC meeting will be held in the 'Audimax' which is located on the campus of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, founded in 1502. The slogan "Progress with Tradition" is brought to life by a highly attractive spectrum of research fields by one of the oldest universities in Germany.

Halle (Saale) is located in a region which has a long history in chemical industry. The area of Halle- Leipzig, nowadays, constitutes an economic metropolis dominated by service industries and technology centers. Numerous scientific institutions, such as Max Planck Institutes and the Fraunhofer Institutes, are resident and attract researchers from all over the world. Young start-ups found their enterprises in the city of Halle (Saale).

Halle (Saale) has developed in 806 out of several centers of settlements and is now the largest city in Saxony-Anhalt. Since 2000 A.D. the Celtic and Germanic tribes produce salt out of the sole water and formed the base of the wealth of Halle in the medieval age.

Furthermore, Halle (Saale) is the cultural capital of this state and as such has several high ranked museums and theatres. As the birthplace of famous musician G. F. Haendel, the annual Haendel Festival attracts visitors from all over the world.
